ACROBATIC ARTS TRAINING

Acrobatic Arts

Taught by: Miss Emilie

Acrobatic Arts Certified Teacher : Module 1 & Module 2

Aerial & Back Handspring Acrobatic Arts Teacher

This class is a favourite among many of our students. Everyone loves the opportunity to develop both strength and flexibility, building a repertoire of stand-out dance tricks. Classes start from 4 years old, children are grouped on ability, over age. Each child works towards their own individual progressions within the world renowned Acrobatic Arts programme.

Please note: This is a training class for dancers, therefore, ALL students attending acro must also take a dance class - we recommend Jazz

Technique or Ballet.

WHAT IS ACROBATIC ARTS & ACRODANCE?

Acrobatic Arts is a conditioning class for dancers, enabling them to master wow moves such as walkovers and aerials. The acrobatic arts classes are not dance classes. This is where we train and prepare students to perform acrobatics on a hard stage within the dynamics of a dance routine or 'AcroDance'. AcroDance is the beautiful fusion of the artistic motion of dance and the athleticism of acrobatics. Often defined by its unique choreography, AcroDance blends seamlessly classic dance styles with acrobatic movement. The dance styles can be anything from a fast paced jazz routine to slow and beautiful lyrical. This is the reason dancers must take a dance class along side acrobatic arts, the acrobatic arts classes are conditioning classes for EDA dancers, developing skills to add to their dance repertoire.

IS IT THE SAME AS GYMNASTICS?

It is important to note that Acrobatic Arts is NOT the same as Gymnastics.

Simply put, gymnastics is a sport, dance is an athletic art form.

There is a need to approach acrobatic arts skills differently. Consider a gymnastics floor routine; it uses some dance technique to showcase their gymnastic skills, however dance is definitely secondary. Gymnasts are expected to prepare, tumble and finish. While acro dancers are expected to seamlessly incorporate the skills into a dance performance. In fact, in a well choreographed acro dance routine, the audience shouldn't expect the skill at all. The other very important difference is, acro dance is performed on a hard stage, without mats. While gymnasts have the advantage of a sprung floor, allowing for much more high risk tumbling and landings.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO ATTEND DANCE CLASSES AS WELL AS ACROBATIC ARTS CLASS?

Yes. Dance training is essential to the success of any acro dancer, due to the level of artistry required. The weekly acrobatic arts training works on developing strength and flexibility required to achieve high level skills, therefore less time allocated to dance. Taking dance class is fundamental to the success of an acro dancer, ideally acrobatics arts should be accompanied by ballet and/or jazz technique.

Acrobatic Arts follows guidelines of safe dance practice, skills may take longer to achieve, but will be of the highest standard when mastered. Dancers train skills on both sides of the body, offering freedom within choreography and seamless transitions from any angle. If your child is looking to just learn tricks and flips, we can recommend a number of fantastic gym clubs in the local area or joining parkour.
